Parking will be limited on Saturday before and during the Women’s March. All are encouraged to carpool or utilize the bus route on Lavaca. Public parking is available at meters near the church. The church parking lot will ask for a $10 donation to support The Refuge, a place of rest and restoration for child survivors of sex trafficking.
Invitation to March
Saturday, January 21, noon – 3 p.m.
State Capitol, 1100 Congress Ave., Austin, 78701
This is a statewide companion rally to the Women’s March on Washington. Its purpose is to “stand together in solidarity with our partners and children for the protection of our rights, our safety, our health, and our families — recognizing that our vibrant and diverse communities are the strength of our country.” You’ll find information on the Austin plans on the Facebook event page. Male allies are welcome to participate!
The United Methodist Women (UMW) from FUMC invite you to the Family Life Center at 10 a.m. that day to make signs, make friends, and get ready to head over to the March. Contact Darcy Hamre with questions at email@example.com.
Prayer Service Hosted by FUMC
4 p.m. – 5 p.m.
First United Methodist Church at 12th & Lavaca
Eremos is partnering with First United Methodist Church (FUMC) to create a time for grounding and reflection after the Women’s March on Austin the day after the inauguration. Planned start time is 4 p.m. (the march is scheduled from Noon to 3 p.m.).
FUMC is located at 12th & Lavaca. On the steps of the church, we’ll have an opportunity to light candles for a prayer or intention post-march. Before entering the sanctuary, there will be opportunities to draw or journal about your experience. Within the sanctuary, we’ll be offering a contemplative opportunity with inspiring music, poems, readings, and moments of silence. We invite you to ponder the question, “Now, what is mine to do?” during this time.
This ecumenical program is designed to allow anyone from any faith tradition or walk of life to pause and integrate what they experienced during the march and to offer a supportive, quiet sanctuary for any prayers or intentions post-march that feel appropriate to them. Please join us for this free event and share with friends!
WHEN: 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m., Saturday, January 21st.
WHERE: First United Methodist Church located at 12th and Lavaca (across from the state capitol)
