We are delighted to introduce Roxie Garza as our new Director of Children’s Choirs. Roxie has been in the teaching profession for nine years, spending the last five years as lead music teacher at Mills Elementary and holds a Bachelor of Music Education with a Choral Emphasis from Hardin-Simmons University.
In Roxie’s own words: “I love encouraging children and know that it is my calling in life. As a music educator, I believe in every child’s ability to be a musician. As a Christian, I understand the importance of music in a worship service. I grew up at First Baptist Church here in Austin and have a profound understanding and respect for liturgy and how music can enhance the worship experience. I am excited to work with the children’s choir program at FUMC, because I believe that children play a crucial role in worship and I look forward to helping them understand that role!”
