Just south of the river on Barton Springs is Baby A’s. They have a great assortment of Tex-mex as well as being home to the famous “Purple Margarita.” Next door to Baby A’s there is also a new seafood restaurant and the new Austin East Cider’s restaurant. Both have excellent outdoor seating.

3508 S Lamar Blvd, Austin, TX
For great coffee, snacked and baked goods, Easy Tiger offers one of the best outdoor atmospheres in town. Contactless service, and easy mobile ordering makes it a great place to sit around a table with friends. Get the giant pretzel with the beer cheese!
Mozart’s Coffee Roasters
3825 Lake Austin Blvd, Austin, TX
You’ve probably been here for their Christmas Light show, but if you haven’t visited for the day, this makes for a great spot to hang out with beautiful views by the water and catch up with friends over a cup of coffee.
Radio Coffee & Beer
4204 Manchaca Rd, Austin, TX 78704
Not much further south from Cosmic is a similar set up, only they’ve got the best taco truck in town parked on the lot. Great seating, regular fun events, and for coffee snobs…I’m told some preference exists here.
Rudy’s on 360
2451 S. Capital of Texas Hwy, Austin, TX
There are plenty of BBQ spots we all know and love, but for an affordable gathering with a large space for outdoor seating, Rudy’s on 360 makes for one of the most communal opportunities. Bring the kids, bring some yard games, and have a wonderful evening!
1917 Manor Rd, Austin, TX
Salty Sow is one of the best happy hour spots in all of Austin with great deals on incredible food and great beverages. Patio seating (get the fried chicken, get the brussel sprouts, get all the things.)

Tony’s Jamaican Food Truck & J Leonardis BBQ
1124 E 11th St, Austin, TX 78702
Two of the best food trucks in East Austin just happen to be right next to each other. Located just east of Franklin’s BBQ. If you can find them when they’re open, J Leonardi’s has one of the most overwhelmingly messy and delicious sandwiches called the Longhorn. Tony’s serves authentic Jerk chicken that you simply have to try. Great shaded picnic tables.
Treaty Oak Distilling
16604 Fitzhugh Rd, Dripping Springs, TX
Treaty Oak is a fun outdoor afternoon just outside of town. They serve delicious food and have their own assortment of gin and whiskey cocktails. Wide open spaces, plenty of picnic tables, and more often than not….Kettle Corn.
7211 Burnet Rd & 2304 Lake Austin Blvd
Fan of hot chicken or just have something to prove to your friends? Tumble 22 has multiple locations around town and offers outdoor seating. It will make your mouth burn and your spirit soar.
Alamo Drafthouse Cinemas
Several Locations around town
Austin, TX, is home to, simply put, the greatest movie theaters in the world. And those movie theaters are STRUGGLING. If you’re vaccinated and comfortable with the outing, they’ve put several measures in place to provide the safest possible experiences. There are fewer outings more enjoyable than the dark room and the giant screen. Plus, they have opportunities to rent out your own private movie theater.
Barton Springs Pool
2131 William Barton Dr, Austin, TX 78746
It’s going to be a hot summer. And there’s nothing in Austin that combats the Texas heat better than an outing to Barton Springs Pool. $3 entry and free parking if you enter on the Azie Morton side. Plenty of room to spread out and enjoy the sunshine.
Blue Starlite Drive-In
2015 E M. Franklin Ave, Austin, TX 78723
Miss the movies but not ready to enter the theater? Book a screening at the Blue Starlight mini-drive in! Now with several screens and several locations, they have a regular stream of great classics you can pick from! If the Blue Starlite is too expensive for a group outing, email devon@fumcaustin about a possible alternative.
Congress Avenue Kayak
74 Trinity St, Austin, TX 78701
Located in the Waller Creek Boathouse, Congress Avenue Kayaks offers great hourly and day rates, and you can set off right next to South Congress Bridge. There are plenty of other locations down near Barton Springs, but they can get busy. Be sure to find a cheap parking lot ahead of time as there is no parking at the location.
Hike around the Austin area by visiting the Greenbelt, Enchanted Rock, Mckinney Falls, or Pedernales Falls. Texas State Parks cost money and sometimes reservations to enter, but if you’ve never climbed to the top of Enchanted Rock, take a group and enjoy the amazing views. But bring lots of water! It can get pretty hot out there.
Peter Pan Mini Golf
1207 Barton Springs Rd, Austin, TX
For $8 a person, you can have the best of evenings competing across the iconic Peter Pan mini golf course. If you’re 21 and up, you also can bring a cooler. The older your group is, the more we insist you play a round of putt putt!
