During the summer, our youth do not sit idle. Even though their summers are busy, many go beyond our walls to learn and help others. A large group of high schoolers traveled to Kentucky for the annual ASP trip, exchanging their relatively comfy lives for back-breaking work. A group of middle school youth traveled to San Antonio for the Reach Beyond Mission trip where they were pushed beyond their comfort zones to serve, visit, and learn about those experiencing inequality, poverty, and homelessness. On a much smaller scale, several of our youth served lunch at the Caritas soup kitchen. An entire team assisted with VBS this summer, modeling good behavior and church family for the younger kids. And the list goes on . . .

We are hugely impressed with the work ethic of our youth. No one complains. They smile and get the job done. As far as we can tell, they have fun. Others notice as well – we hear people say that we have an amazing group.

We’ve watched these kids grow from silly toddlers into young adults. They understand their lives are fortunate and the importance of helping others. As parents, we can preach this message at home, but we’re so grateful our church helps them put it into practice.
Special thanks to our long-time, volunteer youth leaders: Gordon Wesley and Tim Deschner.
