I have been a volunteer at Marbridge since 2003, so I was so happy to learn that Marbridge is a recurring site for a Day of Service a few times each year. Marbridge is a non-profit residential community, located in Manchaca, Texas, on Bliss-Spillar Road, which offers lifetime care to adults with a wide range of cognitive abilities. Through compassion and faith, Marbridge provides residents opportunities to learn, experience, and achieve a whole new life.

At the last FUMC Day of Service at Marbridge, a group of parents and children came to help in a class on the day I was there volunteering. We were playing Bingo that day, so our group from the church spread out to sit by each resident and help them find their numbers as the numbers were called. After the class ended and the group from the church had gone, Bill, one of the Marbridge residents said to me, ” Mary, I had such a good time today helping two little boys with their Bingo cards. I had one little boy sitting on the right side of me and another little boy sitting on my left.  I made sure they found all of their numbers!” So while my friends from church thought they were just there to help, they also gave at least one resident the gift of making him feel useful, wanted, and important.
