First UMC Sanctuary
The Mercy & Justice Team and Youth of FUMC invite you to our Sanctuary for a movie night where we will watch the film “Selma” and discuss the lasting impact of the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Each year our FUMC community participates in the Annual Community March celebrating Dr. Martin Luther King’s legacy while uplifting diversity and multi-culturalism in our city.
In support of the March the following day, we will be collecting can goods or non-perishable food items, which will be donated to the Central Texas Food Bank. “True compassion is more than flinging a coin to a beggar; it is not haphazard and superficial. It comes to see that an edifice which produces beggars needs restructuring.” — Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
You can’t watch the news or read your Facebook newsfeed without coming across articles, discussions, news reports, or posts relating to current events and narratives that plague the conversation about race and racism. We hope you will come and be part of this ongoing conversation. As a faith community we cannot be silent about race and racism. For more information contact Pastor Cathy Stone at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-478-5684 x215. Childcare is available with rsvp by noon Thursday, January 11 to email@example.com.
