Mobile Loaves and Fishes: May Mission Focus 2022

Mobile Loaves & Fishes

“Everything we do is about relationships. The biggest lesson we have learned over the years is that we are not a food ministry. We merely use food as a conduit to connect human to human and heart to heart.”

—Alan Graham, Founder & CEO of Mobile Loaves & Fishes (MLF)

MLF believes that one of the greatest causes of chronic homelessness is the profound, catastrophic loss of family. That belief undergirds Community First! Village, MLF’s innovative neighborhood, which provides tiny homes and supportive community for those who have experienced chronic homelessness, and contributes one solution among many needed to solve the city’s affordable housing crisis. But MLF’s work to build relationships with Austin’s most vulnerable starts smaller—with a sandwich and a conversation with an MLF food truck volunteer—because MLF believes that knowing our neighbors also leads to greater understanding and systemic change.

MLF trucks hit the streets 7 nights a week, 365 days a year to provide food, clothing, hygiene products and other life-sustaining items to our homeless and working poor neighbors. The MLF downtown Austin truck is based at FUMC. It is needed more than ever. Last year, our MLF Truck provided more than 20,000 meals with the help of 300+ dedicated volunteers. That’s a lot of sandwiches and conversations to foster kinship!
