Marriage has changed in many ways in the last 50 years, including who can marry, how property is managed during marriage and upon death, the frequency of divorce, and the relationship dynamics between marriage partners. Four Austin attorneys (and FUMC members) will lead a discussion of issues relating to marriage on Sunday, August 16th, from 5:00 to 6:30 p.m. in the Murchison Chapel.
Mark Morris will discuss issues relating to same-sex marriage in civil society and challenges that remain within the United Methodist Church. Tom Ausley will discuss issues that any couple, whether gay or straight, might consider when discussing or preparing for marriage. And Steve Tackett and Glenn Karisch will discuss things that couples should consider relating to death, probate, healthcare decisions, and custody of children upon death or disability. Therewill be opportunities to ask questions and interact on these issues.
The presenters: Mark Morris is a member of the legal department of a global financial institution; Thomas L. Ausley is Board Certified in Family Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and a Fellow in both the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers and the International Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers; Glenn Karisch and Steven Tackett and are both Board Certified in Estate Planning & Probate Law by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization and are Fellows of the American College of Trust & Estate Counsel.
