All FUMC members are invited to participate in one two-part Discernment Town Hall meeting on May 7, May 21, June 4 or June 11. The three meetings will cover the same materials and information.
Part One will take place during the Sunday school hour from 10:00 a.m.-10:45 a.m. and will consist of an overall briefing about issues that arise when UMC congregations strive for marriage equality. Part Two will following the 11:00 a.m. worship service at 12:15 p.m. This part is a discussion open to questions, comments, and conversations and will take place with lunch served prior to the second half of the meeting.
Sunday School classes are encouraged to consider attending one of the meetings as a group. For both classes and individuals, we ask that you register for the session you plan to attend so that we may obtain an accurate count for food.
Two-Part Discernment Town Hall
All are invited, either individually or as a Sunday school class, to attend one 2-part Sunday session from the dates below. Registration is required for lunch meetings. Click + to expand.
Smaller Gatherings Offsite
As an alternative to the larger town hall meetings, please join us for a smaller gathering to review and discuss marriage equality at FUMC. We will include a briefing about issues that arise when UMC congregations strive for marriage equality and discuss questions and comments about how FUMC can respond. We only have 15 spots for this session so please register now.
Following the Town Hall meetings, the Discernment Committee will review feedback, and develop recommendations for the Administrative Board to consider at its August meeting. Should the Board approve further church action, a Church Conference for all FUMC members will take place on Sunday, September 25, following the 11:00 am worship service. A 75% majority vote will be required to proceed with any recommendation.
