FUMC currently supports two shelter programs – Family Promise and Cold Weather Shelter.
Family Promise is a shelter program of Foundation for the Homeless that provides transitional shelter for families experiencing homelessness. The goal of the program is to assist families, through case management by licensed social workers, in finding housing and employment. FUMC provides a place for families to live in our Family Life Center.
The Cold Weather Shelter Program is through Front Steps at the Austin Resource Center for the Homeless (ARCH). Front Steps coordinates with local churches and city emergency officials to open additional space to provide temporary overnight shelter on freezing nights. Austin’s lack of shelter space forces many people experiencing homelessness to sleep outside during winter months. FUMC currently provides shelter for up to 25 women on Tuesday nights when the predicted overnight low is expected to be 35 degrees and wet or 32 degrees and dry.
Your donations to these two programs may be left at the communion rail or placed in the offering plate today or any Sunday in February. You may also send them or bring them by the church office. Please write “Shelter Ministries” on the memo line of your check. Please contact Pastor Cathy at firstname.lastname@example.org or 512-478-5684 x215 with any questions or for additional information about these ministries.
