The Cheers Ministry is a community for those young-at-heart who are recently retired, semi-retired, or thinking about setting a date to retire. Designed for our members and visitors who are of the Baby Boomer generation (you know who you are), this group is a way to build community, get to know others, and find ways to connect within our large church family. We’ve named it the “Cheers Ministry” from the line in the sitcom theme song, because we hope that this community will be a place “where everybody knows your name.”
Although not intended to be a replacement for your Sunday School class, the ministry will include social activities, service projects, and opportunities for friendships and new experiences — all within our faith community. Please contact Dick Young if you have questions at 512-789-8480 or email@example.com.
Thursday, February 6, 6:00-9:00 p.m., FLC Garrison Chapel
You are invited to an old-fashioned potluck, fellowship and “Show your Stuff” event, where you can show your hobbies, crafts, photography, art and collections or other ways that we spend your retirement ‘spare time.’ If you plan to bring your ‘stuff,’ please let Dick Young know at 512-789-8480 or firstname.lastname@example.org. Cheers will provide the meat dishes, tea and water. Please bring your own soft drinks if you wish.
Saturday, February 22, 6:00-8:00 p.m., FLC Great Hall
The Children’s Ministry team has its Sweetheart Dance coming up and that team is looking to broaden the event to reach more of our church members. The team already has moved away from doing a father/daughter event to one that can be enjoyed and identified with by any age and any loving relationship. Average attendance in the past has been 50-60 people. They would LOVE to see more intergenerational participation and to share the night with many more friends!’
