Event Hosting
FUMC is located across Colorado Street from the Capitol Building at 12th and Lavaca. Our campus includes the historic Sanctuary and Chapel buildings and the Family Life Center at 13th and Lavaca. FUMC makes its facilities available to the Austin community for funerals and a variety of community-based events and meetings.
Giving
Upon uniting with this Christian community, we respond to the question: “As a member of this congregation, will you faithfully participate in its ministries by your prayers, your presence, your gifts, your service, and your witness?”
History
It was 1840, and in Austin, the newly designated capital of the Republic of Texas, a dozen or so Methodists were listening to the new preacher, the Rev. John Haynie, a 52-year-old former mercantile store owner from Knoxville, Tenn, who received his preaching license in 1811.
How to Join
Are you interested in joining FUMC? Prior to joining the church, we ask all to participate in a First Steps class to learn about Methodist beliefs and the ministry of FUMC, meet the pastors and other members, and ask questions.
Leadership
Church leadership includes our Administrative Board, Executive Team, Coordinating Team, and Committees serving various ministries of the church.

Safety
First United Methodist Church of Austin exists to build a community where all people are invited to know God’s love and sent to join God in transforming the world. To accomplish this, we must strive to provide a safe and secure place of worship for all congregants and protect sensitive populations, including children, youth, and vulnerable adults. Below are some programs and policies that support church safety.
