La Posada Providencia is an emergency shelter for individuals and families who flee to the United States due to political oppression, natural disaster, and other life-threatening actions in their native countries. La Posada is the only shelter in the lower Rio Grande Valley that offers individual case management to optimize client resettlement outcomes and that can accommodate extended stays for clients when needed.
Deaconess Cindy Andrade Johnson has recently been commissioned by the Rio Texas Conference of the UMC to serve as a consultant with La Posada. La Posada brings together many faith traditions and groups all seeking to care for our migrant siblings through the work of La Posada. FUMC plans to take a group to serve at La Posada in October and again in the spring. We invite you to support the work of La Posada with your prayers and giving. Your gifts, marked “La Posada,” may be left in the Offering basket as you leave the Sanctuary, made online, or mailed to the church office throughout the month of August. To donate online, select “Other Designated” from the drop-down menu and indicate “La Posada” in the memo section.
