First United Methodist Church in downtown Austin, where we believe that every human being is a beloved child of God on a journey to God, with God.”
Our journey as a faith community began 175 years ago on January 18, 1840, when Austin was a frontiertown. In truth, however, our journey began many centuries before, when God called Abraham and Sarah to go to an unknown destination which God would show them. Each generation follows the path blazed by the generation before it and then points the way for the generation that will follow it.
This Sunday, exactly 175 years later, “we are here” at the point we call the present on the roadmap of faith –the past behind us, the future before us. We pause here on the journey to celebrate and to be renewed as we move into the future, inviting all persons to join us in discovering the depths of God’s unconditional love for each person and to work with us in making God’s dream for this world a reality.
For what God has given us in the past, thanks! To what God shall give us in the future, yes!
