The Legislative Event is the annual three days of learning, engagement, and advocacy, sponsored by United Methodist Women from the five annual conferences in Texas. Registration is open to all women, whether members of UMW or not.
The event includes workshops on the environment, health, poverty, and social media for civic engagement; strategy meetings by Senate district; presentations on state budget priorities, addressing poverty, protecting religious freedom, displaced people, and caring for creation; and legislative visits to the Capitol.
The keynote speakers are Hon. Leticia Van de Putte and Hon. Hope Andrade. Van de Putte served more than two decades in the Texas Legislature, first in the House and then in the Senate, before retiring in 2015. Andrade served as Texas’ first Latina Secretary of State from 2008-2012. In 2016, they teamed up to launch a consulting firm, Andrade-Van de Putte and Associates, based in San Antonio.
