First Church hosted two families from Foundation for the Homeless’ Family Promise Program (FFH) during the week of May 17th-24th.
The families lived in our Family Life Center classrooms, receiving case management from FFH case workers while they looked for housing and/or employment, and their children attended school. We want to especially thank all of you who responded so quickly to our plea for additional overnight volunteers right before hosting, especially some first timers. We had more than enough after your response and hope all of you will be ready to serve again this August!
The following volunteers coordinated logistics, picked up a trailer with mattresses and family belongings and brought it to First Church; bought food supplies; unloaded family belongings; set up classrooms as living and sleeping quarters; prepared and served meals; spent the night with families in the Family Life Center; visited with family members; moved the trailer to the FLC; loaded family belongings; and cleaned up classrooms, restrooms, and the kitchen:Tom and Robbie Ausley; Bergan and Peyton Casey; Davis Covin and Trevor Harper; Judy Funke; Roberto and Sophia Gonzalez; Bert, Olivia, and Sean Greene; Melanie Green; Jim Kaighin; Kristin, David, and Adam Keener; Kevin Knebel and Fancy Mills; Gary McNeil; Art Monzingo; Amy Morehouse; Chip Morris; Julie Nelson; Sallie Novinger; H.W. Thank you for helping us provide a safe, welcoming place for families to live while they are seeking permanent housing!
We are happy to share that one of our families will sign a lease on an apartment June 3. This family has been with us for many months and they are so excited to be moving into housing! Both Mom and Dad work full-time and often have challenging work schedules (including overnights). Having a place to call home will bring this family some stability and peace. Prayers for this family of three as they move and settle into their new home.
