Worship Services

We offer six worship services every week, so worshipers can surely find a time, place, and setting that meets their needs. Childcare is provided on Sunday mornings and Wednesday evenings, but children are welcome to attend any and all of the services. Sermons by our pastors are biblically centered, seeking to inspire, uplift, inform, and challenge us to be good stewards of both the mysteries and the gifts of God. Special attention is given to crafting sermons that are relevant to the world in which we live.

Sunday in the Sanctuary

9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m.

The Reverend Barbara Ruth and the Reverend John Wright, our pastors of vision and worship, preach at these services, in which the best of United Methodist tradition is in dialogue with contemporary issues. Music is an  important element in each service–with newer hymns and songs being sung at the 9:00 service and classical hymns and a superb choir at the 11:00 service. Holy Communion is celebrated every week at the 9:00 service and on the first Sunday of the month at the 11:00 service.

9:00 a.m. Contemplative Service

Room 212, Sanctuary Building

Lay led, this service focuses on being still and quiet in community, practicing the presence of God in the present moment. The service begins with a reading, a poem, or a passage from the Bible, followed by time for reflection, and then brief sharing of those reflections by those who feel led to do so. The service concludes with a time of silence, a time of prayer, without words.

Sunday in the Murchison Chapel

9:00 a.m.

The Reverend Tracey Beadle serves as lead preacher for this service. The size and arrangement of the Chapel brings a feeling of intimacy and informality to the services there. The style of worship might be best described as “blended,” combining United Methodist liturgy with elements from other traditions, along with a wide variety of music. Holy Communion is celebrated on the first Sunday of the month.

11:00 a.m. Selah

The Reverend Tracey Beadle leads this service entitled “Selah,” a biblical term for praise. The setting is very informal, with a band providing music. Holy Communion is celebrated weekly.

Last Sunday of the Month in the Sanctuary

6:30 p.m.
“Life in the City”

In 20112 we are kicking off our new worship gathering, Life in the City. We will be exploring what it means to be a person of faith living in the heart of a vibrant city in the 21st century. We will pray. We will dance in the aisles. We will sing songs your grandparents knew, songs your kids hear on the radio, and songs that speak to the deepest part of your heart. We want nothing less than to Change the World.
