SOCIAL JUSTICE TEAM NEWS AND EVENTS
July 31st
Plan to join the Social Justice Team for their Fifth Sunday Series on Sunday, July 31st. The topic is entitled “Exodus: Flight of Christians from the Holy Land.” This topic is being discussed in our society from National Geographic to Newsweek and Time magazines. What would it mean if no Christians lived in the Holy Land? With heightened concern for the plight of Christians in the Holy Land, the World Council of Churches has called for a worldwide conference this October to address the needs of this special community.
Our guide for the discussion will be Tony Abuaita, a representative of Bethlehem Christian Families. The presentation will be in the Great Hall of the Family Life Center, beginning promptly at 10:00 a.m. We will hear in our discussion about the reasons Christians are leaving the Holy Land. The opportunity for a time of Q&A is planned.
Plan to be a part of this conversation of our global family on Sunday, July 31st.
July 31
First Church will be hosting a display of olive wood carvings, available for sale, from the Holy Land on Sunday, July 31st.
In conjunction with the Social Justice Team Fifth Sunday presentation, representatives of Bethlehem Christian Families, an artisan cooperative, will be selling olive wood carvings outside the church between the sanctuary and education building.
A wide variety of wood carvings will be available that day: nativities, holy family, crosses, Last Supper, Christmas ornaments, praying hands, and more!
It will be like Christmas in July!
