Recovery Ministry

FUMC’s recovery ministry is part of the Greater United Methodist Special Program on Substance Abuse and Violence.  For more information see: http://www.umspsarv.org/.

Recovery Ministry Objectives:

  • Connect people and their families struggling with addiction with the appropriate resources.
  • Be a visible point of contact for FUMC members on alcohol, drug and other addiction issues.
  • Facilitate resources for 12-step meetings in FUMC and to build bridges between the FUMC community and the 12-step community.
  • Help breakdown barriers to communication between people who suffer from addictions and their families.
  • Provide hope by sharing our personal stories in appropriate settings.
  • Provide education on addiction and recovery issues to Recovery Team members and other interested persons.
  • Teach prevention strategies and skills in spotting the signs of addition.
  • Coordinate with clergy and staff in opening a frank honest dialogue in FUMC about alcohol, drug, and other addiction issues and how they are affecting our members, our church, our families, and our community.
