Palm Sunday Worship
April 9, 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Sanctuary
This service begins with the pageantry of Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. All are given a palm to wave as we sing of how the people welcomed Jesus and then, we somberly walk with Jesus to the cross.
Murchison Chapel During Holy Week, April 10-April 15
A labyrinth has a single circuitous path that winds its way into the center. The path allows a person to be quiet and focus internally, walking a path of prayer, while meditating. The labyrinth will be available in the Murchison Chapel Monday-Thursday from 9:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., Friday from 9:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m., and Saturday from 9:30 a.m.-11:00 a.m.
Maundy Thursday Worship

Sermon: “Do This”
Today, we celebrate the Holy Meal which Jesus began in the Upper Room on the night before his crucifixion. “Maundy” refers to the new commandment (novum mandatum in Latin) to “love one another,” which Jesus gave to his disciples as he washed their feet during this meal (John 13:34). Jesus’ crucifixion and resurrection are made present to us in this meal.
Good Friday Family Service

Families are invited to observe Good Friday together through prayer, singing, cross-making and story-telling. Parents will help their children learn and experience the passion stories leading up to Easter in age appropriate prayer stations, stories and activities. Afterwards, families may lunch together (b.y.o.) on the Capitol grounds.

On this day we go to the foot of the cross. Through scripture, prayer, passion hymns, we experience anew Christ’s crucifixion. The light of the cross both exposes our sin and God’s love for us.

Join FUMC and the Easter Bunny for an Egg Hunt/Roll Picnic on the Capitol Grounds. Barbeque and hot dogs will be available for sale with proceeds supporting First UMC’s Eurasia Mission Team. Various opportunities are available to serve.

Today, amidst lilies and trumpets, we celebrate God’s victory over the powers of sin, oppression, and death. This is the eighth day—the first day of God’s new creation. We find new life and shout “Alleluia!”

Childcare During Worship
During Holy Week, our nursery for infants and toddlers will be offered during Maundy Thursday and Good Friday evening services at 7:30 p.m. and at the Good Friday Family Service at 10:30 a.m. Childcare for infants and toddlers is provided for both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. Easter services.
Parking is available in the Trial Lawyer’s parking garage at Lavaca and 13th Street during the 7:30 p.m. evening services on Maundy Thursday and Good Friday. For noon services, parking is available at meters and in the church parking lot. Easter Sunday parking is available in the Trial Lawyer’s parking garage for both the 9:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. services.
